One Mammoth of a Honeymoon

Boy do I have a treat for you all this week! Since I’m savoring every ounce of Michigan sun and sky I can, I have some of my favorite blogger friends stepping in this week to keep you entertained. Because summer and vacations are the only things on my mind these days, my fabulous friends are here to tell you a little about it themselves.

Up first is Rachel and her awesome honeymoon! She’s one of my sponsors and may be the most unique, creative bloggers I’ve met. Interesting fact? She has a published book which acted as somewhat of a launchpad for her blog. Enjoy!

Hi! I’m Rachel, from The Random Writings of Rachel!

Summer reminds me, and, I assume, most Americans, of vacation! Summer is when you can actually travel because you aren’t bound by school or snow. Of course, when I was growing up, I was homeschooled, so my parents very wisely made us do our schoolwork during the summer and then we went on vacation during odd months so that all the fun places to go wouldn’t be overcrowded, but anyways…

While Tina’s traveling, I’m here to tell you about the vacation I took last summer. It was extra special because it was my honeymoon! We’d already been married for six months by that time, but hey, sometimes you just have to fit in a honeymoon into your schedule when you can, right?

We considered going on a cruise or going to Disneyworld for our honeymoon, but in the end we chose a much cheaper and less traditional honeymoon option: Mammoth Cave National Park!

When you only have two people in your group, taking pictures together with famous landmarks can be a little challenging, and may require balancing a camera on the hood of your car.
We had fun exploring Mammoth Cave, as well as many of the other local caves. We spent the whole trip on the go—we didn’t do anything extraordinary, but we just had plenty of fun on our first vacation together and discovered that we really, really love staying at bed and breakfasts. Have you tried one? If not, you should! Way better than hotels, even if the hotel does have a pool! We’re even going to stay at a bed and breakfast on our upcoming vacation to Minnesota. (Yes, we do choose the randomest locations to vacation at!)
We visited the Ohio River…
Washed our car when it got too dirty from all that road-tripping…

Tried to go canoeing but they wouldn’t let us because the rivers and lakes were too flooded!

And even took a cheesy Old Western photo, which now hangs proudly on our living room wall.
We had a grand time. You don’t have to have plenty of money or an exotic location to have a great vacation. A good person to share it with turns even the most humble of activities into a memory to last a lifetime!
